Westerwood is all about you and how you want to live.

We’re the only true nonprofit Life Care Community in Westerville and Columbus area.

Located on the northeast side of Columbus, Ohio, Westerwood is adjacent to Westerville, New Albany, and Worthington. Formerly known as Friendship Village Columbus, we changed our name to Westerwood in 2021 to better appeal to today’s modern elders.

Since we opened our doors in 1978, we have distinguished ourselves as the premier nonprofit Life Care community serving generations of elders with a full continuum of care. Our reputation among residents, families, and health care professionals are well established as evidenced by our many personal and professional referrals. As the only nonprofit Life Care community in the area, we offer residents two different kinds of Life Care contracts that allow them greater financial certainty for the future.

Our Mission

To promote a lifelong journey of personal purpose, for those we serve, by creating a culture of independence, wellness and community.

The best is yet to come

As we embark on our next 40 years, Westerwood has begun a campus-wide transformation that will add new amenities and living options to elevate the quality of experience and quality of care. But what won’t change is our mission: We are deeply rooted in friendship, purpose, and peace of mind.

While our name has changed, our commitment to delivering the best in senior living in Columbus and Westerville, Ohio, continues. We still have the same stellar Board, leadership, and teams in place, many of whom have been with our community for many years. This continuity of experience will bridge the best of the past with the wonderful additions to come.

What ‘Our Campus, Your Canvas’ means to you

Our campus is a transformational place where those aged 62 or better can grow, flourish and create life the way they want it. Here, you’ll have many opportunities to pursue what’s most important to you. Best of all, everything you want is just steps from your door, making participation easy. Imagine a walkable, wooded campus with its own nature preserve. Delightful dining when and how you want it. Nine exercise classes daily. Fully appointed arts studio and woodshop and more than 120 on-campus events each year.

Our campus is connected to the larger community

Our close ties with the Westerville Community Center offer residents access to entertainment, education and amenities, including an indoor swimming pool, miles of trails and a whole host of community events. As a resident, you get access to Lifelong Learning at Otterbein University with a yearlong menu of academic events, mini-courses and day trips with Otterbein faculty.

Those who want to become more involved in our community can join our Residents’ Association, where you’ll have a say in what community life is like at Westerwood.

Accessible living options with a full continuum of care at the ready

Westerwood offers independent living apartments, assisted living apartments and suites, memory care, short-term rehabilitation, and long-term care, all under one roof. Plus, it is the only community to offer a Flexible Lifestyle Program designed for snowbirds and those who want to live here without giving up traveling.

Welcome to Main Street Westerwood

Each neighborhood on our campus is easily accessible through a single connective corridor known as Main Street. Besides serving as the primary avenue throughout our community, Main Street also features access to a bank, coffee and soda shop, library, computer center, salon, general store, fitness center, arts studio, woodworking shop, and billiards room.

Open and welcoming to all

Westerwood takes pride in being a progressive and welcoming senior living retirement community. We consider ourselves non-denominational offering many different faith-based groups and activities and are open to people of all faiths and beliefs. We take particular care to make the rights of marginalized older adults a priority and provide a safe place for all people to live their life to the fullest.

Inclusivity and equality are integral to life at Westerwood.

Our team members and leadership have earned a Platinum certification in SAGECare, a cultural training program for organizations that serve older LGBTQ adults. SAGE is the country’s oldest and largest organization dedicated to improving the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender older adults. The SAGECare Platinum certification means that at least 60 percent of Westerwood staff have completed specific LGBTQ training to ensure we improve care and meet the needs of LGBTQ older adults.
