Choosing the right assisted living community for yourself or a loved one can be one of the most important—yet challenging— decisions you’ll ever make. At Westerwood, we’re here to make things easier. With a wide range of care options, tenured team members and innovative software for families, we offer the support and peace of mind you deserve.
Although there are many benefits of assisted living for seniors, here are five reasons to consider assisted living in a Life Plan Community—and why Westerwood could be the perfect place to call home.
What is a Life Plan Community?
Westerwood is considered a Life Plan Community or Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) because it offers multiple levels of care. Residents can choose independent living, assisted living, memory care or skilled nursing and long-term care.
Residents can also receive therapy services and look forward to a selection of daily meals, activities and a wide variety of amenities on Westerwood’s 23-acre campus.
5 Benefits of Assisted Living at Westerwood
Are you curious about what makes our assisted living community so unique? Here are five benefits and reasons why Westerwood is truly a special place to call home in Columbus.
1. There are multiple levels of care on site
One of the biggest benefits of choosing assisted living in a Life Plan Community is the seamless transition between care levels. For example, if a resident is diagnosed with dementia, they can transition to memory care and receive 24/7 specialized support. As residents’ needs change, they can receive different levels of care without having to move out, all while remaining in a familiar environment with people they trust.
2. Families use the How’s Mom™ app to get updates
Families and staff can stay connected and informed through an app called How’s Mom™ Westerwood is one of the few Life Plan Communities to offer this software, which allows families to easily access their loved one’s vitals, medication lists, diagnoses and more.
Families can also share information directly with their loved one’s physician or the Westerwood team in the app. Whenever there are updates to medications or care needs, the app sends real-time notifications to ensure everyone stays aware and up to date.
3. You can have as much fun as you want
Our large campus offers a variety of opportunities for residents to engage with each other as well as the world around them. Whether it’s taking in the natural beauty of the woods or participating in events with outside groups for entertainment, most residents enjoy a strong sense of camaraderie and connection. Activities in assisted living are planned regularly, and the most popular games include Bingo, trivia and silent peanut auctions with prizes.
4. The staff is extremely experienced and tenured
Westerwood’s assisted living has been serving the community for 25 years and so have many of our trusted team members. The Director of Assisted Living has been with the community since it opened, as well as many nurses, nursing assistants and other staff.
With decades of experience, our trusted team members are experts and provide personalized support and exceptional care to every resident, every day.
5. Westerwood is a nonprofit community
Westerwood is the only true nonprofit Life Plan Community in the Westerville and Columbus area. The money that families and residents contribute for care and services is reinvested into the community, which helps maintain the building and supports the dedicated caregivers who help residents daily.
Our nonprofit model ensures that all resources stay within the community, which allows our team to remain mission focused. Here, our mission is to put residents first. Our team works hard to promote a lifelong journey of personal purpose for those we serve by creating a culture of independence, wellness and community.
