As the administrator for Rehab and Assisted Living, Aubrey ensures that every resident feels valued, prioritized and at home. When did her story begin?
Aubrey is the first to admit that her first chapter at Westerwood began with a little bit of luck. While finishing her bachelor’s degree in social work, she landed an internship at the community. When a full-time position opened, she didn’t hesitate to take it, and Westerwood quickly became her home.
A typical day in the life.
Every day at Westerwood brings new adventures, which is why Aubrey enjoys it so much. Although no two days are alike, her mornings typically begin with a 9 a.m. meeting with the interdisciplinary team. Together, they review updates, discuss clinical reports and census, and set priorities for the day. While her schedule may change, one thing stays the same—making time to connect with the residents, her favorite part of the job.
Even a brief conversation with a resident can have a profound impact on her day. “In just 15 minutes with a resident, you can learn so much,” she says. “Whether it’s a funny story or piece of life wisdom and advice, it makes your day.”
Aubrey shares that these interactions serve as important reminders to slow down and fully embrace each moment. It’s these very moments that ignited her passion for senior care, and now she can’t imagine doing anything else or being anywhere else.

Aubrey is no stranger to making difficult decisions in her field. However, the best piece of advice she ever received was: “If it’s best for the resident, it’s the right decision.” This advice has become a guiding force in her life, and it’s what she prioritizes every single day.
“I always say that we (Westerwood staff) are humans caring for other humans who are loved by yet more humans, which leaves a lot of room for emotion,” she explains. “We encounter many instances where a resident and their loved one do not see eye to eye. These instances are the perfect time to deploy that advice because it eliminates some of the emotion that affects decision-making.”
In the end, Aubrey’s goal is to create a community atmosphere where residents feel safe, heard and supported. For her, personalized care goes beyond meeting basic needs—it’s about going above and beyond to create meaningful connections and support seniors.
