Our History

Since 1978, our dedicated caregivers have been helping seniors live with purpose and dignity. What started as a vision for exceptional care has grown into one of Columbus, Ohio’s most trusted nonprofit senior living communities. These proud milestones honor our past and inspire us to build an even brighter future—just for you.

1978-1988

The first gardeners and landscape designers planted trees, shrubs and flowers. 
 
The Residents’ Association was formed so seniors could work side-by-side with the administration to meet the special needs and concerns of the community.

Residents published the first issue of The Village Highlightsa newsletter that has gradually grown to include original stories and memories. 

The groundbreaking for Ridgewood Assisted Living took place, which is now called Westerwood Assisted Living.

Resident leaders became very involved in community decisions, including the design and development of Friendship Woods.

Multimillion-dollar renovations were made to our community, including updates to our first-floor assisted living wing, exterior painting and an interior refresh.  

The elegant monthly first-Sunday brunch began.  

The first four-legged residents (seniors’ beloved pets) were welcomed on campus.

We changed our name from Friendship Village Columbus to Westerwood to better appeal to seniors today.
